Staying at a seedy motel on the outskirts of town, all Grant wants is a good night’s sleep. But with a skinny hooker and her pimp causing trouble that isn’t going to happen. Throwing the pimp over the balcony is just the start of Grant’s problems. There is also the fire in his room, the hooker in hospital and a gang of white supremacists at their training camp at Catawba Point.

A collection of short stories featuring Jim Grant and Vince McNulty. Includes the first ever Jim Grant tale, Granted, written as a test for the character and to ask Lee Child for permission to use his real name, and the longer introduction to Vince McNulty, Hollywood Light. In between there are tales set in Los Angeles, Texas and Boston as well as flashbacks to Yorkshire that explore the nature of their friendship.

Yorkshire ex-cop, Vince McNulty works for Titanic Productions in Boston, teaching an actor to walk like a cop and investigating stolen film stock while secretly searching for his missing sister, who was sold into adoption in America from the UK. The investigation uncovers darker things including torture porn and snuff movies.
